This four mile walk starting and finishing at Yew tree Farm is one we do regularly. It starts with a short incline through Wraxall Vineyard. On reaching the top of the hill you will be rewarded by far reaching views of the Somerset levels.
After crossing the road there is a short walk along the top of the hill before descending into East Pennard. Once on the country lane you will pass the Batch Farm cheesemakers shop and then a 14th century church which claims to house the second heaviest peal of five bells in the world.
Shortly after passing the church you will leave East Pennard via a wooded path and head towards Hembridge, where you will walk a short section of the Monarch’s way. The Monarch’s way is a long distance footpath following the escape route taken by King Charles II in 1651 after being defeated in the Battle of Worcester. (The section between Hembridge and Huxham is often wet underfoot.)
Once in Huxham you will pass through an area of common land containing a large pond before heading back to Yew Tree Farm along Wraxall road.
